Kaia Health is a German based digital therapeutics company that specializes in developing mobile applications for managing chronic conditions, particularly musculoskeletal disorders such as chronic back pain, osteoarthritis, and COPD. Their AI-powered apps provide personalized exercise therapy, education, and mindfulness techniques to help users alleviate symptoms, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life. Kaia Health’s programs are designed to be accessible, convenient, and effective, offering users a clinically validated alternative or complement to traditional treatments.
As Senior Vice President of Growth and Strategic Partnerships at Kaia Health, I was recruited to spearhead the expansion of the employer market and rebuild strategic partnerships with UnitedHealthGroup, particularly with Optum Health. My mandate included opening all lines of business affiliated with UHG, including UHC, UMR, Optum, OptumRX, Surest, Optum Care, UHC Medicare Advantage, and UHC Fully Insured and ASO lines of business.
In this role, I formulated and executed the company’s US commercialization strategy while establishing a robust operational foundation. Recognizing the pivotal role of market expansion into fully insured, M&A, and Third-Party Administrator (TPA) segments, I orchestrated exceptional performance, achieving a remarkable 211% growth compared to the previous five years. This was a 1650% increase year-over year, with a significant 40% personal contribution.
Beginning with a lean team of two National VPs of Sales, I swiftly acquired the sales enablement teams, laying the groundwork for scalable growth and revenue operations. Through precise market segmentation and strategic partnerships with health plans, digital partners and employers, I successfully negotiated network access to 6.5 million lives in 2023, with an additional 4 million lives secured for 2024.
This accelerated growth trajectory is projected to drive Kaia’s revenue beyond the $50 million mark in Annual Recurring Revenue. A key achievement during my tenure was the execution of targeted strategies to establish ground-level partnerships, resulting in an estimated Annual Recurring Revenue boost of ~$7 million through the addition of 1.5 million new lives.
My collaborative leadership style and adeptness in crafting compelling value propositions were instrumental in positioning Kaia as the preferred musculoskeletal solutions partner for key healthcare stakeholders.
